Around Rottenbuch

The starting point is at the large intersection at the Fohlenmarkt parking lot. After a gentle ascent through the districts of Weihanger and Solder, you reach forest and meadows. Soon you can decide whether to make a detour – past the Schutzengelkappelle – to the Mühlegg with a magnificent view. Then continue towards the Pestfriedhof. Shortly after, you could shorten the route through the Rochustal and Moos. If you choose the long version, you reach the Schmauzenberg via Vogelherd with a nice view of the village and the mountains. Then it goes downhill again and between Hochkreit and Schweinberg you cross the Talbach gorge over a romantically wild bridge. The last section nestles along a beautiful footpath at the forest edge and leads into a hollow with former monastery ponds. From there, it is a short, steep climb and with one step through the arch of the monastery wall you stand in the lower monastery courtyard. Before returning to the starting point, you should definitely visit the former monastic collegiate church “Mariae Geburt.”
