With the Verdasio-Rasa cable car, we soar up to the original, car-free mountain village of Rasa in Ticino. The place, with its scenic location high above the Centovalli, is the starting point of this charming high-altitude circular route through shady chestnut forests and to original mountain villages. Those getting hungry on the route can stop at the Osteria in Bordei or the Grotto in Rasa. In 1923, the valley was opened up for traffic. Since then, the spectacular narrow-gauge railway, called the Centovalli railway, has been running on a daring 52 km route between Domodossola and Locarno. An incredible 348 curves, 83 bridges, and 31 tunnels are on the route, for which the train takes more than one and a half hours.
