On this entertaining hike we experience the outskirts and the surroundings of the city of Memmingen.
Memmingen, with its historic city center, is located at the crossroads of various transport routes. We notice this during our hike. We encounter the highways A69 and A7, as well as the railway lines from Munich to Lindau and the Iller Valley Railway. At the Stadtweiherwald, we reach the track of the former railway line to Legau. In Neue Welt we are in the area where the State Garden Show took place in 2000.
Author’s recommendation
We should definitely allow enough time to visit the historic old town before or after the route.

From the station we walk south to the pedestrian bridge and cross to the other side. At the old gas storage facility on Gaswerkstraße we keep to the left. After a few meters we turn right into Brückenstraße and follow it to the Stadtbach. On the east side we walk along the outdoor swimming pool. At the ready-mixed concrete plant we cross the Tiroler Ring. Through Haußmannstraße we walk westwards to the retail stores. During opening hours we can buy any missing provisions, food, and drinks here.
A few meters southwards we turn right into Alpenstraße. Many old industrial facilities line the street. Behind a scrap dealer with a railway connection we cross the railway again via Oberbrühlstraße. We walk briefly left on Allgäuer Straße up to Am Galgenberg street. Here we walk uphill to Dickenreiser Weg with its beautiful avenue trees. Heading south we approach the highway. Due to planting and the protective wall, we only perceive their noises. We circle the houses on Neubruch on the street Auf dem Neubruch. Upon reaching Römerstraße we switch from the meadow to the path between the highway and gardens.
Behind the houses we enter Stadtweiherwald. We turn right at the second path and then left at the next one. Shortly afterwards we cross the former railway line to Legau. A short right and then left uphill brings us to Oberer Eschhaldeweg. The horse paddocks convey a very rural structure, but this soon ends at the BBZ stadium. We follow Bodenseestraße to the left. From Memmingen Arena a footpath leads northwest uphill to Hühnerberg. We cross the street of the same name. We leave the houses on Stifterstraße to the left. Behind Spitalmühlweg we walk along Dobelhalde to the highway. Up numerous steps we climb the protective wall. Along the highway we continue further north. We cross Buxacher Straße and later the railway line Memmingen - Leutkirch. Beautiful views of the Memmingen districts are repeatedly offered. The footpath ends at Buchsheimer Straße, where we now turn east to start the northern part of the city circuit.
On the other side of the following roundabout, behind a kitchen studio and a pool manufacturer, we turn right into Eichenstraße. Shortly afterwards we continue eastwards on a foot and cycle path along gardens at the edge of the tree and flower settlement. From Irisweg we reach Hürterstraße at the edge of the field. To the right we go over to Grenzhofstraße. Arriving at Donaustraße we head northwards to Madlenerstraße, at the end of which we pass under Schumacherring. Shortly afterwards a footbridge leads over Stadtbach to the beer garden in Neue Welt. This is where the 2000 State Garden Show took place.
Left past the wakeboard facility we reach the highway. On the other side we walk right along the following pond. At the roundabout by Berger Holding we have reached Eisenburger Straße. After the railway underpass we turn right along Aspengraben. Through the fields we walk to the other railway line, also passing under it, and follow it to the right to a dog school. On a field path we head towards the highway. We do not use the direct underpass but the one located slightly further east. After Staatsstraße we walk through the green areas at Haienbach past the district of Kalkerfeld. We now constantly walk along the brook east of Tiroler Ring until the church of Memmingerberg comes into view.
We cannot follow the brook any further there. We cross Tiroler Ring and walk back towards the city center. Through Haienbachstraße, past sports facilities of TSV Memmingen Ost, we reach Bergmühlstraße. Turning left we come to Benninger Straße. Heading into the city we can soon turn left into Schießstättstraße. Through this we walk back to Gaswerkstraße, where we cross the pedestrian bridge back to the station and our route ends.
