A short but all the more varied tour is offered in the forests south of the old small town of Lockenhaus: With the Margarethenwarte, the forest adventure trail, the Paulusbrunnen (a former chapel where a now dry spring once flowed), the castle lake, and the Ritterburg, this entertaining circuit includes several sights.
From the church in Lockenhaus, we follow the red-yellow marking along the road towards Rechnitz. At the street bend at the edge of town, we continue straight on a forest road. A signpost already indicates our destination, the Margarethenwarte. We hike slightly uphill in a valley and turn left after 10 minutes (signpost). The now slightly steeper path is well signposted. About 1 km after leaving the valley floor, we turn sharply right at another junction (our later return route towards Birkenbankerl and Paulusbrunnen is on the left). 150 m further we meet the forest adventure trail and follow it to the right, passing five information stations and a resting place with a playground. We again reach the path to the Margarethenwarte and continue straight ahead — initially ignoring the left-diverging half of the forest adventure trail — to the intersection with the federal road. From the opposite car park, we follow a wooden sign for 5 minutes slightly downhill to the 25 m high
