Around Lake Ossiach
Just like around Lake Wörthersee, there is a circular hiking trail around Lake Ossiach, which often runs through forest and mostly far away from the lakeshore. It is signposted throughout as the "Ossiacher See Trail". The best starting point is Annenheim on the western shore of the lake, as the steeper climbs on both sections are easier to walk this way. However, you can choose both the stages and their directions as you wish or shorten them with intermediate ascents or descents.
Day 1 - northern section: From Annenheim via Deutschberg, Winkl Ossiachberg and Ossiachberg to Steindorf From the Annenheim bus stop, we walk left past the valley station of the Kanzelbahn cable car to the WW for trail 34a. We follow this path to the junction at Sprungbach, 580 m (WW). The trail climbs steeply for a short while, then turns right through partly steep slopes to the junction, 680 m, of trail 34 towards Kanzelhöhe. We first hike almost level, then steeply over high steps and secured by a fence, railing and rope down to a rest area below the Finsterbach waterfalls, 580 m (information boards). From here you can visit the three Finsterbach waterfalls. We descend to an asphalt road near the uppermost houses of Sattendorf and keep left onto a cart track, which soon turns into a path and later into a cart track. It meets a forest road on which we turn right to a stream with a large debris barrier. The following panoramic hike takes us past a transformer to Gerlitzenstraße, 925 m
