Hike over the Hutberg to the Heiligen Berg

This hike is most beautiful in the spring, when the rhododendrons and azaleas bloom in the parks on the Hutberg around Pentecost. Wilhelm Weiße, the former royal purveyor and city gardener of Kamenz, laid out the expansive Bergpark in 1893. The park is known far beyond the region’s borders for its many—and in some cases rare—species of conifers and its large number of flowering shrubs.

From the station plaza in Kamenz, we walk down Bahnhofstraße to the right. At the roundabout on Bönischplatz, we cross the railroad tracks—which run underground here—without even noticing and turn right onto Königsbrücker Straße. Passing the small 13th-century St. Just Church, whose interior is adorned with medieval frescoes, we arrive at the entrance to Hutberg Park. From here on, our hiking trail is marked with a red dot.
