The long-impassable border between Austria and the Czech Republic has turned the Thaya valley into a paradise for plants and animals. The creation of a cross-border national park has helped preserve the integrity and uniqueness of the Thayatal region. On the described circular route, you can walk through the romantic valley with its castles and ruins in a highly varied way.
From the National Park House to the country road and then turn right (southeast) to a left-turning farm track (trail no. 2 and no. 6). Over meadows northeastward down into the forest and at the fork turn left on a footpath up to a junction and then right to the viewpoint at Henner, 426 m. Back to the fork and straight ahead on the footpath to the junction of trail no. 2, shortly before the country road. Now sharply right onto the "Kirchensteig" (trail no. 2) through deciduous forest descending northward to the saddle at the clock tower of Hardegg and on the driving path between forest and houses turn right (east) downhill to the Thaya bridge, 290 m. Here, follow the red-marked path (Thayatal Trail no. 1) right bank downstream, later ascending the Gabrielensteig onto a forest ridge and further to a fork – left turn to the Hermit's Rock and the Thaya bridge (variant). Straight on over a forest slope down to the Thaya. There on the marked path keep right over meadows, then over steeply
