Pure Ore Mountains in the Müglitz Valley

This short hike leads around the traditional clockmaking town of Glashütte. This is how one imagines the Ore Mountains: coniferous forest, moss, and blueberries. On cozy little forest paths, the route goes over the rock gate to the observatory, down into the Müglitz and Brießnitzbach valleys, past rocks, and through idyllic forest. In the second part, we hike on panoramic trails to spectacular viewpoints. The start is at Kalkhöhe, where a wild apple tree has also been planted. This highly endangered tree is the only native apple variety still relatively widespread in the Eastern Ore Mountains, which is why the area is also called Holzäppelgebirge (wild apple mountains).
Glashütte is world-famous for its fine precision watches. In 1845 Ferdinand Adolph Lange founded Germany's first watch factory here, which from 1875 secured the city's livelihood and replaced the former mining industry. The German Watch Museum shows the history of watchmaking in Saxony from its beginnings to the present day. However, not everyone can afford a watch from Glashütte, as only exclusive luxury goods are produced.

Pass the Sonnenuhr daycare center on the left and also the playground. Shortly after, turn right uphill, following the hiking sign into a forest area. Our path leads in switchbacks to the rock gate, also called the "Ox's Eye." At the top, continue along the main path, first right, then left. The beautiful forest path leads us to the observatory. From there, go right down the road toward Johnsbach; it becomes steep briefly. Before the water supply box, turn left. Up and down, hike to a junction and continue straight, then downhill and
