Around Gemünd

From the hiking car park we go south, at the fork turn right and at the next intersection turn right again. At the following fork we keep left and then always straight ahead until we meet Kohlweg at a T-junction. Here turn left and continue always on Kohlweg, at several junctions (1x right, 2x left, 1x right, 2x left, 1x right) and past Mittelberg (490 m) until point 501 m. At the crossing, go half-left downhill. This path leads us down to the Urft valley after two curves, to Mauel and the Maueler path. In Mauel we turn left and cross the Urft. Opposite the B266, it goes uphill again through the forest. Soon we reach a path (T-junction) which we follow to the right. The path then flows into a paved field path that takes us downhill to Gemünd. Shortly above Gemünd, a path branches off to the right to the Eifel viewpoint, which we should not miss. From the Eifel viewpoint, it goes back to the paved path and downhill into the village. In Gemünd, we first walk along the Olef river to its confluence with the Urft, there turn left across the river and continue over Dreiborner Straße (cafes and restaurants) to the cross street/path that leads us back to the Urft riverbank. Left along the shore to the bridge and to the other bank.

There it goes first zigzag uphill and via Bernersweg in two switchbacks to Bernersknipp (view of Gemünd). Continue on Bernersweg to the junction with the Jägerpfad, which we now follow to the right (east). Over the next cross path and at the following junction turn left, after 250 m turn left and the next right (unfortunately the fire lookout tower has burned down and no longer exists) and immediately left around a bend in Wolfgarten to the street "Am Merrchen" and over it through the forest to Kermeterstraße and on it until we cross L249.

Continue past the Mariawald forester's house, at the fork turn left and continue over the next cross path to the next fork. Here turn left and after 150 m turn right again, passing two junctions (1x left, 1x right) and then right into Kälbchesweg. We follow this past several junctions to a four-way junction where we turn right into Hergartener Buschweg. Continue on this, at the next fork turn left until the crossing where we leave it. From there straight ahead, always in the Schafsbach valley, passing a junction on the right to a small pond where we cross the Schafsbach. Over the next cross path, first following a left curve and then a right curve, we return to the starting point.
