Auerbach was once an important center of the stocking industry, but today, located in a narrow valley, it seems somewhat sleepy. This hike offers tranquility, contemplation, and delights with beautiful viewpoints from the surrounding slopes. On clear days, we can recognize distinctive mountains in the area here: the Scheibenberg (Tour »Scheibenberg, 807 m«), the Bärenstein (Tour »Bärenstein und Vejprty«), and the Fichtelberg (Tour »Fichtelberg, 1215 m«).
Passing fields, meadows, and forests, we hike high above the valley of the Gornsdorf stream to the place of the same name. Then we continue up into the Abtwald, whose edge offers charming views of Auerbach. The return route goes through the lovely village, past the pretty church built in 1745, whose west tower was only added in the 19th century.
In Auerbach, we turn towards the Evangelical Lutheran Church, follow the church path and at the end of the garages, turn sharply left. Now we go straight ahead; with some luck, we may see various animals roadside, e.g., chickens. After almost 2 km, the parking lot is reached on the outskirts of Auerbach, where some car drivers start the tour. We continue along the road (away from Auerbach) and after about 250 m follow signs to the right onto the field path. For a while, follow the yellow bar hiking sign. Information boards about the history of Auerbach and the surrounding area accompany us on this hike, such as at the viewpoint »Am Pfarrsteig«. Always follow the main path; it goes into the forest and at a crossroads continue straight ahead. At the edge of the forest, the Jupp’s Höh viewpoint and rest area is reached; according to the board, the historic field name was »Auf der Alm«. Below, continue straight into the forest, always in this direction. The yellow bar is temporarily left
