This circular hike leads to the hills south of Alkoven, past Hartheim Castle with its memorial site, through Alkoven to the Innbach, and along the Innbach, partly in the floodplain, then over the Gelsenwirt and the Radkovsky ponds back again.
From Alkoven station, we first cross the tracks and follow the road towards Hartheim, at the roundabout towards Annaberg on Schlossstraße, then turn left at a carpentry workshop into Parzweg. The field path then bends right at a right angle, and we reach Annaberg. Here, first turn right, and after house no. 10 turn left through the hamlet and ascend to the small Annaberg church. At the summit, we follow the Naturfreundeweg (Nature Friends Trail) marking to the right, descend from the ridge into a slight hollow, where at the next crossroads the Naturfreundeweg turns left. Keeping slightly right, we reach Winkeln; here, in front of a quadrangular farmstead, turn right onto a no-traffic road (house Winkeln 13). A field path guides us over Wimmerweg and Bergleithenweg to Hartheim to the learning and memorial site Schloss Hartheim, one of the most important Renaissance castles in Austria.
