Located in a side branch of the Gadertal, Wengen is one of the still not overcrowded holiday resorts in the region. A must for its guests is the visit to the Heiligkreuz Hospice, a meeting point for ambitious hikers and pilgrims, accessible from the public parking Spessa via the Armentara meadows, praised for their beauty. For the return to the valley, we choose the Wengen Höhenweg, which offers a perfect hiking pleasure under the 1000-meter walls of the Neuner and Zehnerspitze (Fanes group).
From the Spessa parking lot on a marked path ("Via Crucis La Val") upward to the west on the forest slopes to the shoulder Somcol, 1725 m, with forest road. This goes up southward on trail no. 15 to the Armentara meadows (crucifix) and then on footpath no. 15 to the left (south) upward to the ridge of Col de Trames. Beyond that, across a swampy meadow (boardwalk) and up to the Heiligkreuz Hospice, 2045 m.Enjoy the splendid view south to the Marmolada with the dark rock group Padòng and the Pralongià meadows in front: to the southwest the fortress of Sella and further right the Puez group with the Sass Songher. To the west the Geisler group, to the northwest the rock pyramid of Peitlerkofel, to the north the glacier mountains of the Zillertal Alps.On trail no. 15B ("Wengen Höhenweg") northward uphill to a shoulder, 2081 m.
