▶ From Parking Lot 01, heading toward the lake, we notice an information kiosk. This is the site of the Roman cemetery at Bedaium. We leave the road and walk across the parking lot to Haushoferstraße. On this street, we turn left toward the Alz River until a sign for the Archaeological Trail directs us to the right toward Stöffling. Time and again, we’re treated to beautiful views of the Alz River, which is still young and flows leisurely along. At Stöffling 02, we find a reconstructed Celtic farmstead from the La Tène period. We continue along the loop trail toward Truchtlaching, which nestles picturesquely into the landscape ahead of us. Immediately after the small wood, we take a dirt road to the left and then branch off to the right again right away. We head up a hill along the outskirts of Truchtlaching. Once at the top, we follow the red trail markers again and now hike onto a headland formed by the meandering Alz River. The Celtic fort 03 lies in the middle of the forest and appears as a rectangle surrounded by ramparts. A massive wooden gate was erected as the entrance. In recent years, it has been concluded that these Celtic fortifications served as central gathering places and courts with ritual significance. As we continue on our way, we circle around the Celtic fortification. We now leave the forest and come to the so-called “Maiblock.” The trail then heads downhill again toward the Alz. At the trail junction, you can take the opportunity to visit a so-called “refuge fortress” from the Early Middle Ages. It takes only a few minutes to get there. Palisades have been erected around an earthen mound, behind which people once found shelter and were able to fend off attackers.Back in Truchtlaching 04, you can choose to continue following the signs for the Archaeological Hiking Trail or take a wide detour through the peaceful, agricultural countryside back to the starting point. To do this, we head toward the church and take the road branching off to the right and leading uphill toward Pattenham/Ebering. At the top of the hill, we turn right toward the trail riding station. We soon reach it and walk straight through. At the edge of the forest, we turn left and walk downhill along the dirt road. At the bottom, we follow it to the right, always staying along the edge of the forest. This brings us back up to higher ground, offering a panoramic view of the farmland. Our path turns left again along the edge of the forest, and we eventually reach the road to Ebering, marked by a wayside cross. Our hiking trail continues to the left across the way. Walking along the edge of the forest again, we take the right fork at a junction. At the next fork, we turn right into the forest. After a few hundred meters, the trail forks again. This time, we take the left, less-traveled path. From here, we can already see the light at the edge of the forest. We emerge into a clearing and see a dirt road to our right that leads to the paved road from Truchtlaching to Chieming. We cross it to the left, where a forest trail picks us up. After about 100 meters, we come to a cross path. We follow it to the right, initially still in the woods, and soon along the edge of the forest with a view across Lake Luging. Below Castrum 05, we have to walk a short distance to the left on the busier road to Seebruck. We can turn right off it before reaching the wooded area. At the next two forks in the trail, we keep to the left and then hike uphill back toward Stöffling 02. From here, we take the familiar path to Seebruck and back to our parking lot 01.
