Andros Route 18 - Vakoni - Aladinou - Vrachnou - Livadia
This route connects the settlement of Vakoni with Chora, through a series of beautiful settlements, while circumnavigating the watershed of Gerakonas.
The route starts at the beautiful settlement of Vakoni with its many springs and cisterns. Between gardens, orchards, olive groves and livestock farms, the route moves towards Aladino and its stone arched bridge. There an annex leads to the cave of Foros, while the main route goes up towards the settlement of Falika, just under the imposing Panachrantou Monastery. The route then descends towards the settlement of Chora, through old paths and between abandoned settlements and fields. The image of abandonment is strong, both in the dilapidated buildings and overgrown fields, as well as in the quality of the trail, which requires caution while hiking for much of the trail. The view along the route is impressive, as the hiker moves through the amphitheater of the Gerakonas watershed. Just before the settlement of Vrachnos, the downhill route climbs steeply to get to the ridge that stands just above the settlement, giving the hiker a panoramic view of the wider area. The final descent through the settlement of Vrachnos gradually leads to the South side of Chora while an annex of the route leads to Livadia.
