Andros Route 11 - Batsi - Katakilos - Arni
This route connects the sea-side settlement of Batsi with the mountainous village of Arni through wide trails, small settlements and with beautiful views that leave a pleasant impression.
This route starts at the beach of Batsi and finishes at the settlement of Arni. At its beginning, it crosses the beautiful narrow streets of Batsi, ascending in an eastern direction towards the slopes overlooking the settlement. Early on, the whole of the settlement and the sea front that surrounds it open up in front of thehikers' eyes (or behind them). The route near its beginning meets and follows a very well-maintained paved trail, paved with wide slabs for the most of its length and always with a clear track. It must have been a very important trade route that connected the main settlements in the west with the corresponding ones in the east of the island. This route is followed by the branch 11a which starts a short distance from the start of the cobblestone path. The main route, continues through old trails among traditional island stone walls that bound the fields, on its way up to the settlement of Katakilos. After a section of dirt road that runs around the perimeter of the settlement, giving the hiker an overview, the route goes through the settlement on its central paved road. The square of Katakilos invites the visitor for a stop with a river, benches and shops creating a particularly pleasant environment. The route continues uphill, leading to the settlement of Ano Katakilos, which after a steep uphill on a path is left to the side of the trail. Outside Ano Katakoilos, the route takes a dirt road with nice views of Arni, which will be reached within the next 2 kilometers. After the end of this dirt road, the route enters beautiful paths, between stone walls. Gradually the first of the old farmhouses of Arni make their appearance as ruins now. Traversing the slope that separates Katakilos from Arni and trotting through beautiful ravines, the hiker gradually enters the settlement of Arni, and meets the intersection of routes "13" and "Arni Circular Route" on his way to Panagia ton Baleon, where the route ends.
