Sweeping views over the Wadden Sea and salt marshes alternate with intimate paths through dune valleys. In high season, you can expect to see many cyclists on the path along Ballum beach.
We walk through Camminghastraat, the main street of Ballum , past the single tower of the Reformed Church on the left and past the parish hall towards the village. After a bend to the right, we take the Wester Grieweg on the left, which seems to lead through the open pastureland to the dyke. But to reach it, we have to turn left at the second opportunity (Skuteweg).At the top of the dyke, we turn right and walk for a while between the sheep with a view of the varied polder landscape with reed beds and ditches, the church tower of Hollum and the lighthouse in the distance. Where the dike foreland begins, we switch to the asphalt path outside the dike. The salt marshes turn into a sandy beach, which is gradually covered by rows of dunes. At a paved dyke crossing, we turn left, cross the row of dunes and turn right along the beach.
