Am Basteir is one of the most striking peaks in the Cuillin Ridge, rising in a sharp sweep of dark rock above the wild heart of Skye. Although lower than some of its neighbours, its dramatic shape and exposed position give it a true mountaineering character. The usual approach leads through the rugged corries of the northern Cuillin before a steep and rocky ascent to the summit, where the views over the jagged ridge and surrounding sea lochs are unforgettable. In good conditions, this is a superb and adventurous day for experienced hillwalkers comfortable on rough, exposed ground.
