The Altrhein Experience Path leads through the Natura 2000 area "Eich-Gimbsheim Old Rhine". The animal and plant species living there are unique.
The circular route offers 2 observation huts, an observation tower as well as 10 bird signs and 4 information boards. The first hut gives you a view of the water habitat and reed beds of the "Eich-Gimbsheim Old Rhine". Many rare bird species live there using the reeds as a breeding habitat. Threatened dragonfly and amphibian species have also settled there. Numerous benches invite you to rest and enjoy nature.
The plant world also has a lot to offer, such as the shining spurge or the bulrush sedge. The path leads right through the old Rhine branch. Our next big goal, the bathing beach. There you can dip your feet in the water.
From the observation tower, you have an indescribable view over the entire lake. Geese, ducks, or swans are often observed. The water is so clear that even crayfish have chosen the lake as their habitat.
Then it continues to the second observation hut. Always along the lake, you slowly approach the starting point again. Throughout the circular path, the animal and vegetation world is explained in more detail on the information boards. Dive into the experience of the Altrhein Experience Path!
Author’s recommendation
Have a small picnic at the "Coot Bird Sign" station; there is a bench where you can wonderfully take in the lake.

Tips and suggestions
Further information about the Altrhein Experience Path can be found on the website of the VG Eich tourist office: www.tourismus.vgeich.de or by phone: 06246 6917.
In spring, the plant world on the path literally explodes and in autumn the color change of the leaves has something magical about it.
Roadbook
We start at the first observation hut (near the fire department) and let the impressions of nature affect us, then follow the signs uphill towards the street and then turn left over a small bridge, turn left again and thus reach an old railway track, which we follow past a lock. At the end of the railway track we turn right, cross the street and can already admire the beautifully designed containers by the graffiti artist Daniel Ferino. At the beach bar of the Eich bathing lake, you are welcome to stop by during the summer months.
Then we continue following the signs, always along the lake. At the end of the path we turn right. Straight ahead, the signs then indicate to turn right after about 500 meters, a narrow path right along the picturesque lake. After that we have to turn right again and walk along a small field path which leads us back towards the lake. Then turn left, stroll along the lake, following the signs turn right after about 700 meters. We now head towards the observation tower. There you can enjoy a great view before continuing. After a few hundred meters a sign points to turn right. A barrier appears before us, which we walk around. A wonderful natural path along the lake, towards observation hut number two.
There we enjoy the view over the lake and continue walking straight ahead over a small wooden bridge. Until we come to a crossroads where the path continues straight and right. We keep right and arrive at an information board with a small bench.
Next to it is a small bridge leading over a ditch. We cross it and then walk left. The path again leads directly along the lake. Always further until we can turn left once and right once. We turn left over a metal bridge and walk along the path by small gardens. Then follow the signs, turn right and cross the street. Then continue straight until we reach the old railway track again and turn left to reach the parking lot.
