The tour begins and ends at the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park Center in Bühl. The route starts off with a leisurely walk along the lakeside promenade, passing the Hauser beach, while following the signs marked with the nature park sticker “Alpsee-Rundweg.” Then, at the western end of the Großer Alpsee, a dirt road leads through the Konstanzer Valley to Ratholz. There, cross under the B 308 and turn left onto the footpath. Alternatively, take bus line 39 back to Bühl from here.

After a short while, you’ll reach the Stadtwaldweg, which now follows the detour uphill for about 200hm to the Pionierhütte. Here, turn onto a narrow forest path toward Gschwend . From Gschwend, there are two options: Either take the road to Rieder or head down to the Gschwender Tobel via the hiker’s parking lot. Along the ravine, you’ll pass several small waterfalls before the trail also leads to Rieder.

The route then follows the Ergelweg, which offers beautiful views of the Großer Alpsee. Alternatively, you can take the road via the Rieder Steige to the underpass on the B 308. Finally, the Kirchsteige leads back down to the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park Center in Bühl.

    Author’s recommendation

A detour to the Gschwend Waterfall is well worth it.

Stop for a bite to eat at the Hexahäusle in Gschwend.

Water fun at the Großer Alpsee.

    Roadbook

This route takes you directly around the gem Großer Alpsee, either right by the water or a bit above on the mountain with a beautiful view of the lake. The start is at the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park Center.

From there, the path leads you along the lakeside promenade and past the Hauser beach bath. At the western end of the lake, you reach Ratholz via a dirt road through the Konstanzer Valley. Halfway point!

Follow the signs with the nature park sticker "Alpsee-Rundweg." In Ratholz, you go under the B 308 and then keep left. Follow the circular route, partly flat, partly uphill towards the small village of Gschwend. From here, you can either continue on the road to Rieder or turn left at the hiking car park and follow the path down into the Gschwender Tobel. Here you can enjoy the beauty of the water in cascades and small waterfalls, before this path also leads you to Rieder. You pass the first houses and turn left onto the narrow path called Ergelweg, which offers you a fascinating view over the lake. Alternatively, simply follow the Rieder-Steige road until you reach the underpass at the B 308. Finally, you have to go down the Kirchsteige to the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park Center to end your lake circular route.

Alternatively, you can also take the bus back to Bühl or Immenstadt (line 39).
