ONE OF THE OLDEST WALSER SETTLEMENTS
Documents that have come to us testify to the existence of the village already since 1200, while the currently existing houses (13 in total) date from 1668 onwards. The housing structure, practically unchanged, is perched on a natural balcony overlooking Monte Rosa and the valley.
The village is under the protection of the Superintendency for cultural and environmental heritage.
In the village there is a refuge with rooms and a restaurant, newly renovated on a pre-existing volume, opened since 1992.
The refuge consists of a central building with 2 rooms of 6 beds each and 4 double rooms, with showers and facilities, located in a "stadel" in front. It is open from the 3rd week of June to the 2nd Sunday in September and weekends in June and September.
The Alpenzù Refuge has electricity and offers its guests a bar and restaurant service; credit cards are accepted.
Author’s recommendation
Steep but very wide path, especially in the first section.
There is another path that is much less steep but a bit longer; starting from the Municipality of Gressoney La Trinité, follow the Walserwaeg path from the roundabout located at the entrance to the village to reach the village of Alpenzù Grande passing through the village of Alpenzù Piccolo.
