Even Caesar attempted to conquer Britain (55 and 54 B.C.), but the conquest was not successful until 43 A.D. under Emperor Claudius. Emperor Hadrian finally consolidated the northernmost border of the Roman Empire beginning in 122 AD with a wall that stretched over 120 km from the North Sea to the Irish Sea.
