Almeida - A historically interesting loop hike between imposing fortress walls

▶ We start our tour at the riding stable in Almeida 01. An information sign provides details about the hiking trail. We take the path to the right toward Terma da Fonte. Shortly after, we turn right again and walk through two archways in the fortress walls. A signpost directs us to the right, along a country road, until we reach the next village. There, we turn left onto the road. Then we take a gravel path to the left again. We pass a farm and keep to the right at the next fork. We walk past a private property on a path to the right. The path widens, and we come to a sandy trail. There, we head left. We hike through a landscape of large boulders, between which we can enjoy magnificent, sweeping views. We ignore a path that branches off to the left. We cross a stream bed through tall grass and arrive at a beautiful rocky plateau with an information sign about the region’s geology.
