Selected alternatives for you
A Wienerwald circular route once without much forest, but with many lonely country roads and magnificent views, especially from the summit of the Buchberg, which, in addition to its splendid view, also offers a remarkable dripstone cave. There are three starting points (Alland, Groisbach, and Untermeierhof), all three connected to public transport.

If you skip the Buchstein summit, this circular route represents the prototype of a very easy but varied hike. The summit hike is also unproblematic; only the descent has an alpine character in places. Bringing poles is recommended.
Author’s recommendation
1. Those who want to arrive by public transport are recommended Alland; this place is served by several bus lines.
2. Those who want to climb the Buchstein summit but want to forgo alpine path flair are advised to return on the ascent path rather than crossing over.
3. Those who want to skip the Buchberg summit with its somewhat more demanding paths altogether should not enter the narrow trail but follow the yellow-marked forest road, which leads to the cave parking lot within a few minutes.
4. You will find gastronomy in Alland and Groisbach, but not in Untermeierhof.
We chose Untermeierhof as the starting point, which is also served by a bus line. [Image 1]. It goes uphill to the right on a forest road with a view into the Groisbach valley [2] to the Kritschkogel saddle with a Mayerling view [3]. It then goes level [4] keeping left across a large meadow with the first view of Alland [5]. We cross a line of bushes between two hay bales, after which we keep to the right downhill along the forest edge. From the forest edge, it goes up a few meters to a forest road, which we follow to the left. If we want to reach the summit of the Buchberg, attention is required. After just a few meters, a narrow, unmarked trail leads to the right up to a ridge, from which the summit can be reached on the left [6]. From there it goes narrow, steep, and initially somewhat exposed down to the dripstone cave and then on increasingly comfortable paths [7] to the cave parking lot. From there, it is about 150 meters down to the federal road [8]. We follow it to the left until the path "Am Herrnwald" branches off to the right; we follow it until the alley "Herrnauwald" branches off to the left. It quickly leads us out onto a blue-marked country road. We follow this marking past the hospital parking lot to the federal road, which we cross, and then continue following the blue markings downhill to Groisbach on the right. After a few meters, we turn left into a side street, which finally leads us via a country road and a stream onto the driveway to Untermeierhof.
