Hardly any other mountain in Northern Hesse stands out as uniquely from its surroundings as the Alheimer above the middle Fulda valley – a widely visible wooded cone that rises 100 m above all neighboring ridges. From its stone observation tower, inaugurated in 1930, a magnificent panorama unfolds, making the Alheimer a special attraction. Many paths lead to the Alheimer. The most beautiful one starts down in the Fulda valley, in the charming half-timbered town of Rotenburg.
From the market square or the parking lot on the Fulda bank in Rotenburg, follow the X9 marking over the old Fulda bridge into the new town and to the train station. Under the railway structure and the B 83, proceed up to the Rodenberg Clinic. Noteworthy here is the Jewish cemetery with the oldest tombstone from 1748. Continue on X9 to the next junction, where a sharp left leads to the Katzenkopfhäuschen, an observation pavilion built in Jugendstil style in 1898. Descending, you reach X9 again and continue on atmospheric forest paths past the breakfast beech and the bottleneck hut to the Alheimer hut. A steep ascent leads left up to the summit with the observation tower. Back at the trail junction in front of the hut, follow the diamond sign to the left, which first runs along the access road, then branches right, initially through forest and then across a pasture ridge down to Hergershausen. With the diamond marking, proceed towards Baumbach until crossing F on top of the ridge. F now
