The loop has San Benedetto in Alpe as its start and end point, a small but charming village located within the Casentinesi Forests National Park.
San Benedetto in Alpe is the starting point for some hiking routes, the most famous of which leads to the Acquacheta waterfalls, known from Dante's memory.
At the beginning of the village of San Benedetto in Alpe, coming from the Muraglione Pass, there is a parking lot before the bridge over the Acquacheta stream.
We head up a short but steep climb where there is a sign with directions to the Acquacheta Waterfall (path 407).
There are no water sources along the route, so it is advisable to fill our bottle at the fountain near the parking lot.

The first part of path 407 follows the riverbanks in a wooded environment.
Continue ignoring the junction on our right that leads to Colle del Tramazzo (415 A - 415) to arrive at Cà de Rospo.
After about four kilometers of ups and downs, you reach the Old Mill which, together with Cà de Rospo, are facilities always open during the summer period.
Then, among beeches and hornbeams, you reach a viewpoint: in front, the jump of the Acquacheta Waterfall is 70 meters high, plunging into the valley from a stepped ledge (unfortunately, in summer and during drought periods the spectacle is nil as there is no water).
We settle, moving forward, for the pool formed by the Lavane Waterfall.
After crossing a small ford, the most hiking-intensive part of the loop begins: uphill, we head towards the ruins of the Hermits, an ancient cluster of rural houses abandoned for decades and which some sources say was the hermitage linked to the monastery of San Benedetto.
Ignoring to our right the path that leads to Mount Levane (about a couple of hours away), we head toward the mountains of Londa and Prato Andreaccio (path 409) crossing a wooden bridge.
The route up to Cà Monte di Londa is uphill but always through the woods; upon reaching Prato dell'Andreaccio we find the indication to return to San Benedetto in Alpe: it is a very steep downhill path, cut by more than a hundred steps, which, in case of rain and with muddy ground, must be taken with some caution.
The arrival is near the parking lot from which we started.
