Route to the former Achbachklause.
The route begins a few hundred meters southeast of the village of Frauschereck. The hiking route leads down forest roads into the Achbach valley. Here you can admire the various forest types from young forest to magnificent mixed forest. After about 1 1/2 km, you see the source of the small Achbach stream which gradually becomes larger. To the right is the ridge of the Saustallberg mountain covered with young forest. Shortly before the Achbachklause, more small streams flow into the Achbach from the left and right. Despite the various confluences of streams, with this small volume of water of the Achbach it would not be possible to float logs all the way to the Inn about 70 km away. Therefore, from about 1765 - 1897, roughly 130 years, the water was dammed here at the Achbachklause to form a lake at snowmelt in spring and during heavy rain, then with a water surge the logs were floated towards Schneegattern (then called Weißenbach) and further to the Inn. The return path leads a few hundred meters above the Klause back on the left forest ridge of the valley basin to Frauschereck and further to the starting point of the route.
