Absandberg - Schacher - Gadenweither Gorge
Selected alternatives for you
Also an exciting hike suitable for the times of Corona across a little-known ridge that counters loneliness. Using forest roads and trails for ascent and descent, it goes through well-thinned forests that would also allow terrain-savvy persons to take direct ascents to the peaks, on April 11, 2021.

Due to some uphill sections, a somewhat demanding hike, which especially also poses a small challenge for terrain-savvy people. Surefootedness is required when descending from Absandberg, as there is a crossing between rock formations in steep terrain.
Author’s recommendation
A longer circular hike in a secluded area opposite the Gösing.

From the chapel in Gadenweith, first go about 1.5 kilometers downhill on the asphalt road to a clearly visible forest road leading left and upwards. After a left turn, there are several forest roads going upwards, from which it is best to take the most straight northbound paths possible. Once on the ridge, it goes fairly straight westwards and gently about 1.2 kilometers to the Absandberg summit, which has only a small stone cairn. From there, about 0.4 kilometers gently westwards down to the rock formations to a barely recognizable trail which crosses the steep terrain northwards. At the saddle below, it leads to a steep forest road going upwards. After about 100 vertical meters, trail traces lead westwards to Schacher, which is reached after 1.5 kilometers. It has a measuring point. Now it goes slightly downhill keeping right to a forest road, where stone cairns indicate the way to follow the marked path coming from Breitensohl. You leave the marking after about 250 meters and go uphill towards Übeltalwiese. First still the gently descending forest road until the marked trail leads down into the gorge. Through this, it goes past Johannes spring, caves, and two narrow rock passages back to the starting point.
