The Rio Seixe is the border river between Algarve and Alentejo, and the small town of Odeceixe on the river is the last settlement on the Algarve side. Usually, only a few Algarve tourists stray into this part of the country. They enjoy unforgettable views. The Miradouro da Maravilha with a view of Praia de Odeceixe is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the country. Unique are the many storks. Allegedly, this is the only place in the world where storks nest on the cliff.
We start the hike in Odeceixe at the intersection of Variante 19 de Abril and Rua do Rio streets, where there is also an information board about the Rota Vicentina. First, we follow the road towards Praia de Odeceixe. After about 400 m, the path turns right onto a dirt road leading into the river valley. We hike through meadows and fields in the wide river valley that forms the border between Alentejo and Algarve. Looking back, we see Odeceixe. After about 850 m, the dirt road merges back into the road. We follow it to the right towards Praia de Odeceixe. We stay on the road until we reach a fork. Here, we follow the road to the right (straight ahead) and slightly uphill. Soon a magnificent view of the river valley and the beach opens up. At the next left turn, we continue straight on the marked path towards the beach settlement ahead.
