The forest, for man, is always a source of stories and legends… more or less plausible! Popular tradition tells of this place (at the foothills of Monte Basilicò) as inhabited by fairies and supernatural creatures, with outcomes not always happy. Man tends to "romanticize" what he does not know, but beneath the mythological surface, one must always seek the truth. The presence of wildlife, often invisible to the eye, may be a clue. As will be the many signs of presence that animals leave in the forest, so more than the fairies, perhaps we should look for roe deer, squirrels, badgers, and wolves. The route begins by ascending the settlement of Gambarie and, once reaching the highest houses, it enters the forest in the aqueduct area, following trail no. 112 of the Aspromonte National Park, which it will follow only for a first (and short) part. From here, it immediately crosses the “Vallescura,” a small valley occupied by the characteristic Troja stream, which forms a small waterfall just below the trail. The path continues on an easy dirt road, partly occupied by an ancient “pavement” of controversial origin. Continuing along, alternating small climbs and descents, it reaches the Fragolara area, at the crossroads of the paved road leading to Montalto. From here, it returns to Gambarie via the SP3, passing through characteristic tree-lined avenues.
