A few kilometers behind Castelmonte, the forest opens up. First vineyards appear. Looking back, we can see the Julian Alps. If the weather doesn't spoil our plans, the Adriatic Sea can be spotted on the horizon, which we will reach tomorrow. In joyful anticipation, today we mostly travel off-road through the famous Collio wine region. Those who wish can visit one of the magnificent wineries along the way. It might be more pleasant to taste the Collio wines in Cormòns, freshly showered, in one of the local restaurants or on the terrace or courtyard of the Enoteca on the charming Piazza XXIV Maggio.
Today we initially follow trail 748 to Albana. From Castelmonte, 618 m, we descend via a staircase path or road to the large parking lot and then turn left at the Strada Provinciale 31. After 300 m, we turn sharply left. A wide path leads us through dense deciduous forest. At a fork, turn right. We reach the Tre Re chapel, 530 m, whose construction dates back to 1470. We walk down a path. After 450 m we need to be careful and turn sharply right. At the end of the forest, the first vineyards of Collio and the church of Fragielis appear. We do not go straight towards the hamlet but rather stay right within the bushes. At the next vineyard and a house, a small road is reached. It leads us straight to a wider, better asphalted road. We keep our direction on this road. Shortly after, at the road from Cividale del Friuli to Castelmonte, we turn left. After about 300 m, we turn sharply left.
