21a - Tabià da Rin

The hike begins at “Pre Ciaurin” in Val da Rin and follows the first section of Trail No. 21, through a mixed forest of Norway spruce (Picea abies) and silver fir (Abies alba). At first, these tree species clearly dominate the landscape, but as you climb, you’ll notice a few European beech trees (Fagus sylvatica). Upon reaching the junction with Trail No. 21a, leave Trail No. 21—which climbs to “Malon Basso”—and continue at higher elevation until you reach the area known as “Rin dei Prade.” Along this stretch, you’ll be flanked on the left by a beautiful example of a spruce forest—a pure stand of Norway spruce—whose understory is covered by a soft layer of moss.

From “Rin dei Prade,” the wide dirt road narrows into a trail winding through a mixed forest of spruce (Picea abies), fir (Abies alba), and beech (Fagus sylvatica). As you look at the undergrowth, you’ll be able to admire various specimens of milkweed gentian (Gentiana asclepiadea), monkshood (Aconitum napellus), raspberry bushes (Rubus idaeus), and wild bellflower (Campanula trachelium).

The trail continues at this elevation to the Tabià da Rin, where you can enjoy a splendid view of the Marmarole. After crossing the meadows, you’ll reach the dirt road that descends from Val de Poorse and will soon lead you to the ford across the Rio Da Rin at “Piaza del gobo,” where there is a lovely picnic area.
