Safety information
Our circular routes are not strolls but hiking trails. Sturdy footwear, hiking poles, and sure-footedness are recommended for all routes. Especially after and during rainfall as well as in the winter months, the calcareous rock and ground, especially on slopes, can be very slippery. We ask you to exercise appropriate caution.
In case of emergency, always dial 112. Please mention if the injured persons are in inaccessible terrain so that the Bad Urach mountain rescue service is also informed and unnecessary delays in rescue are avoided.
On the posts of the arrow signposts, you will find a plaque with the exact location number. This is known to the control center. In case of emergency, this ensures quick help.
Roadbook
Right at the start of our route, we have a comprehensive view at the hiking information board over the meadows, fields, and forests around Bad Urach-Wittlingen. On the opposite slope, there are scattered orchards extending to the edge of the Hockenloch forest. There lies the sports field. To its left runs the road to Bad Urach-Seeburg in the Ermstal valley. Further left, we see the now-forested Kitzenmahd and behind it the heights of the former Münsingen military training area. On Fischburgstraße, we initially walk towards Bad Urach-Wittlingen and then turn right into Am Zimmerplatz street, which leads us to Hengener Straße. We turn left into this one. Opposite it, diagonally to the right, a farm road branches off that runs between two large field barns through the Mäuerlen area. Soon, to our left, we see a tall antenna mast which we will circle widely during our route. On the highest elevation of the Mäuerlen (762 m), a bench offers a magnificent panoramic view over the Uracher Alb and the three Bad Urach districts Hengen, Sirchingen, and Wittlingen. To the right of our path is Hengen to be seen.
Behind it, the highest summit of the Middle Alb, the Römerstein with tower (874 m), borders the gently rolling landscape. To the right of Hengen lie the barren Linsenberg (754 m) and then, between the forest districts Leimgrube and Kitzenmahd, the Bittental valley. Above the forest is the nearly 800 m high terrain of the former Münsingen military training ground. Also, to the left, to the west, a new view opens up. Left of the antenna mast, on the plateau above the Ermstal, the Bad Urach district Sirchingen can be seen in its entirety and further left the treeless area of Blasenberg (776 m). To the right of the antenna mast, above the Bickelhausen forest area, lie the meadows of St. Johanner foal farm. Further right is the forested Uracher Galgenberg (827 m) with the Yellow Rock (733 m) and the Sun Rock (777 m). In front of us, above the forest, lies the village of Hülben (713 m). As we continue our route, we see the Erlach (778 m) with the water reservoir that supplies Bad Urach-Hengen with water. We walk straight towards it and turn left at the crossroads by the reservoir. Above the forest, we see the fortress ruins Hohenurach (692 m). We head towards the forested area and turn left again a few meters past the forest entrance. Between tall beech trees on a shady forest path, our route leads back to the fields. Soon we reach an intersection and cross it. Now, we hike over the volcanic vent Winkelstein. At the edge of Bad Urach-Wittlingen, we go steeply downhill into the small town and turn left into Fischburgstraße. Passing the cemetery, Fischburgstraße leads us back to the industrial area and thus to the starting point of our route.
