07 Eastern Austria Border Trail, E09: Drosendorf - Langau
In Drosendorf, the Thaya leaves us towards Czechia, and we will meet it again only in Hardegg. The landscape becomes flatter and more open, almost resembling the Weinviertel – but it will take some time to get there. The highlight of this stage is the Geras Abbey.
If we have not stayed overnight in Drosendorf old town, we descend to it and hike past the church to Galgenberg. We only touch the village of Wolfsbach on the edge; the path continues through forest and over meadows and fields to Kottaun, which lies completely to the left. We can still walk a bit through the forest, then the road leads us to Geras.
We pass the abbey and turn northeast, then east back into the forest, pass the Hubertus Cross and then turn left. Soon we are in the open again, the tower of the warehouse in Langau can be seen from afar. We cross the railway and walk on the road into the village.
Author’s recommendation
The Geras Abbey is worth a visit, at least the church should be manageable. The town also offers a nature park with the Langer Teich.
