02A Central Alpine Trail East, E05 (variant): Siegendorf - Forchtenstein
Variant 02A
After staying overnight in Siegendorf, our route today leads to Zagersdorf, Draßburg, Mattersburg and Forchtenstein at the foot of the Rosalia. Just before the reservoir in Forchtenstein we reach the highest elevation so far.
With Forchtenstein as the stage goal, we have a longer hike today of about 29 km and a bit more than 500 meters of altitude. We move from the Pannonian plain to the hilly terrain of the Rosalia. South of Zagersdorf, the ascent begins for the first time, to the Weingebirg elevation with a great panoramic view. Before crossing the Draßburg Forest, we find ourselves at the site of the former Pauline Monastery, a place of peace.
Orchards and dry grasslands dominate the landscape at the Marzerkogel. From here we look out over Rohrbach, Marz and Mattersburg, with the Ödenburg and Rosalia Mountains on the horizon.
