Hikers on the ParadiesRoute Upper Glasbachtal are welcomed by the babbling brook, mossy paths, and green meadows. The path leads past historic mills and farms that tell a long history.
The starting point of the circular hike is the town hall square at the large hiking signboard, the so-called “Squirrel Signpost”. We walk through the Squirrel Forest, then past Tonishof toward Obermartinsweiler. Here we cross the road to Buchenberg. Through the forest, over natural, partly gravelled paths, we now head to the village of Buchenberg. The small tranquil village invites you to linger. A stylish café-restaurant, a village museum, and some historic buildings ensure there is no boredom.
We continue past the small St. Nicholas chapel, down into the wild-romantic Glasbachtal. The babbling brook, mossy paths, and green meadows; here we enjoy a small piece of paradise. On the other side, it goes steeply uphill towards “Sieh dich für”, from where one is treated to a magnificent view.
We descend again, listen to the silence of the forest, and follow the signs toward Muckenloch and Waldau ruins. The Waldau tavern at the foot of the ruins is just the right place for a break. Refreshed and strengthened, the last stretch then leads along the old church path, past the golf course, towards Königsfeld.

Tips and suggestions
Tonishof
From 1350 to 1591, the fief had several names. The farm was operated until the late 1980s. Since then, the house has been uninhabited.
Young Farmers' Farm
The Young Farmers' Farm is a typical Black Forest house in the Gutach style. It was established in 1591 after its separation from Donishof. For fire safety reasons (1568), the kitchen is surrounded by stone walls.
St. Nicholas Chapel
The exact date of the construction of the small Buchenberg St. Nicholas chapel is unknown. Much indicates that it was built after the Investiture Controversy ended (1122). Buchenberg was first mentioned as an independent parish in 1275. Today, the church is a cultural-historical gem. The community gathers here every year in August or September for a traditional costume service and on Christmas Eve for the midnight mass. In summer, weddings, baptisms, and concerts take place here.
Mühllehen Mill
Of the originally four customer mills in Buchenberg, the Mühllehen mill is the only one still in operation today. It is also one of the oldest in the Schwarzwald-Baar district. Tours are available by appointment.
Old Bartles Mill
The old Bartles Mill was operated for generations by the owners of the Bartle farm, lastly by Mayor Simon Rapp together with the Lehmann family from Burgbacher farm. Water was supplied to the mill via a mill channel from the Glashalden pond. It was demolished in 1930 due to dilapidation.
Old Kronenwirt Mill
The old Kronenwirt Mill belonged to the farm of the “Krone”, the former “Staff Tavern.” It was built in 1850 and had a grinding and milling operation. It burned down in December 1974. It was the last of six functional mills in the upper Glasbachtal. The remaining ruins reveal the water supply, the location of the mill wheel, and the floor plans of the mill building.
