3x3 Salinental: ClassicTour Ebernburg
Half-day route around Ebernburg, along the romantic Nahe river, through forest and vineyards with beautiful distant views.
The Ebernburg with a fantastic 360° panoramic view, the castle village, the path along the Nahe river through meadow landscapes past the Rotenfels massif shape this route, as well as the ascent into the mixed forest near Norheim up to the plateau between Feilbingert and Ebernburg, which again offers views far into the North Palatinate mountain range. Forest, meadows, river landscapes, a high plateau that makes every tree a character actor, make the heart of the hiker beat faster.

Safety information
In times of heavy rain, parts of the path may be affected by moisture. In case of flooding in the Nahe floodplain, please switch to the bike path on the higher old railway line. The detour is signposted. The critical water levels for passability can be found at Hochwasser-rlp.de. The critical water levels are Boos from 2.00 meters, Bad Kreuznach from 3.50 meters. Above these water levels, the paths become very difficult to pass; the detour should be chosen.
Warning: Oak trees can be heavily infested by the oak processionary moth. The caterpillar of this moth poses a health hazard. The caterpillars’ bristles contain a toxin. They can also be spread by the wind. Contact with the caterpillars can be harmful to humans and pets. Common symptoms include rash and skin redness, slight swelling, blistering, itching, and burning sensations all over the body. If the bristles (containing thaumetopoein) are inhaled, this can cause irritation of the mouth and nasal mucous membranes, bronchitis, asthma, or even an allergic shock. Even after the life cycle of pupae, caterpillars, and moths, the empty webs with their bristles can remain hazardous for a long time.
Precautions:
- Observe warning signs
- Avoid infested oaks (do not use seating areas nearby)
- Do not touch caterpillars or webs (never try to destroy webs yourself)
- Do not lie down or sit on the ground near infested oaks
- Protect your body with clothing (neck, nape, arms)
- Keep pets on a leash and stay on the paths
- Report infestations. These can possibly be removed professionally with special equipment; hazardous areas can be marked.
- If you have come into contact with caterpillar bristles, change your clothes and shower
Wash clothes at a minimum of 60°C

Roadbook
From the hiking portal, we approach the castle along vineyard paths. Over the Ebernburg bridge, we reach the courtyard of the historic castle (> exhibition). From up here, we have a beautiful view of Rheingrafenstein, Rotenfels, and Porta Nava. Now follows the descent past the Sickingen-Hutten monument down into Kuna Park by the river. We follow the riverside path to the Nahewiesen meadows, where the impressive steep wall of Rotenfels increasingly rises before us. Below Rotenfels, we are very close to the porphyry massif. It continues through the Nahe valley on varied paths and through the wide floodplain landscape near Norheim. After crossing the Nahe cycle path, our way gently and steadily ascends along pastures and through the forest. At the top, we reach the picturesque Kafelsblick with a charming rest hut via a spur path. Comfortable forest paths lead to Birkerhof. From there, it goes downhill on meadow paths and along the vineyards. At the stone sculpture park of the Fondation Kubach-Wilmsen with its architecturally outstanding museum, we again enjoy the magnificent view of Rotenfels. We return to the hiking portal via meadow paths.
