The Trnovo Forest is intertwined with beautifully maintained forest paths, ideal for cycling on warm summer days when it gets too hot in the valley. A stop at one of the mountain huts and a visit to the large ice cave in Paradana will make this cycling trip an unforgettable experience.
The path leads us towards Lokva, where we are directed by signs at the crossroads. In the shade of the Trnovo Forest, we begin to climb slowly. Follow the signs for Čaven, which direct you to the left from the main Predmeja-Lokve road connection. Just before the Anton Bavčer mountain hut, a beautiful view of the upper Vipava valley opens up. Behind the hut, the path splits and we keep to the left. Follow the path through the forest for 6 km and then turn right towards Mali Lazna, a large clearing in the middle of the Trnovo forest. Keep to the right there, where signs point you towards Paradana - the Big Glacier. When you reach the turn-off for Paradana, get off your bike and walk to the entrance of the cave. As we walk towards the entrance, we can feel the temperature slowly dropping due to the thermal inversion. At the cave entrance, it is barely a few degrees above freezing in summer. From the turn-off for Ledenica, there is a short climb to a crossroads where you turn right. From here you start descending towards Predmeja. At the large car park under Iztok's hut below Golaki, follow the signs for Predmeja, where we finish our route.
