Tannheim Mountains Loop: Over the Alter Gaicht Pass and Through the Vilstal Valley
Starting in Pfronten, take a loop around the striking backdrop of the Tannheim Mountains! A varied route along the border between Germany and Austria that takes you over the historic Alten Gaicht Pass into the high valley and back along secluded trails through the picturesque Vilstal Valley.
We set off from Pfronten and quickly leave the hustle and bustle behind us. The highlight of the first half is definitely the Alte Gaicht Pass. Far from the busy road, we wind our way up into the Tannheim Valley—a historic route that’s now an absolute gravel rider’s dream.
Once at the top, we enjoy the sweeping panorama of the high valley before heading out on the second leg: the return trip through the Vils Valley. Anyone riding here can feel the tranquility. The Vils babbles alongside you, the gravel rolls almost on its own, and the mountains frame the trail perfectly. Especially in the fall, when the air is clear and the leaves are changing color, this loop is pure soul-nourishment on two wheels.
