Varied gravel route from Peißenberg: gravel paths through forests, along the Ammer river, and through moor landscapes. Challenging climbs, fast descents. Panoramic views of the Alps. 80 km of pure nature enjoyment.
This wonderful full-day route leaves no gravel biking wishes unfulfilled. Routes with a perfectly balanced ratio of gravel and asphalt lead through the attractively varied landscape between Staffelsee and Ammer. Not to be underestimated: over the nearly 80km, a full 1000 meters of elevation gain is collected, providing lots of dynamics and guaranteed fun. Entry is naturally possible anywhere along the route.

Consideration keeps paths wide
Please note that in our region you often ride on agricultural paths. You are very welcome on these paths, but they are naturally also used by farmers with their vehicles for field management. Because of the size of the vehicles, paths can get narrow. Paths stay wide enough if all users show mutual consideration and make way if needed. Please note that large machines often cannot leave the paths. Therefore, as cyclists, please make way when it gets tight!
Thank you very much for your understanding and consideration for the people who have to work here!
Use of paths along rivers
We are pleased that the Weilheim Water Management Office has created levee paths along the rivers that may also be used by cyclists.
Please note that these paths were created for water management purposes and do not always meet the quality standards for cycle paths. Especially after construction work, floods, and storms (fallen trees), paths may have damages or impassable sections. Also, construction traffic may occasionally occur.
Please use the paths with appropriate caution and pay attention to the traffic signs on site! Use of the maintenance paths is at your own risk.

Roadbook
Peißenberg – Uffing – Murnau
Start at the small parking lot at the Böbinger Ammer bridge downstream to the next bridge. Turn right at the bridge, cross it, and follow the main road slightly uphill for a few kilometers. At the hamlet of Eyach, the route takes a sharp right, then uphill again, past beautiful trees and the beautiful baroque church of St. Nicholas. After this, turn right, revealing a long section of wonderful nature. First along the edge of the forest, then into it on well-rideable gravel. In the forest, the path branches left, continuing on a fairly straight track to the next junction. There turn left, out of the forest, over fields, along the forest edge in a wide right curve, leading to the junction where it continues right towards Gut Grasleiten. Past the beautifully babbling brook here, through a grove of beautiful trees uphill, further over fields, through a small hollow to the idyllic Gut Grasleiten, which is eye-catching with its neat house chapel. There the path turns left, slightly downhill now again on gravel. The landscape changes slightly here. Increasingly marshy ground is suspected. A wild forest is now passed through, incredibly beautiful. Ahead, always towards the Alps, the route continues over a field, through a forest, and then climbs up a hill, where behind the crest the baroque little church tower of Uffing becomes more visible with every meter. At the top, go straight into the village of Uffing am Staffelsee. In the village, the path meets the main road, which the route follows windingly through the village. A swimming stop at Staffelsee is recommended. Shortly before the village end, the route turns left. The dead-end sign only applies to cars. Cyclists can continue. Now, mostly on gravel for a few kilometers, the path runs parallel to the railway track. To the right, the view of Staffelsee with its small islands and the Alps in the background opens up. Then it enters the village of Murnau, where the bike path leads with some distance from and greenery along the main road through the village. Past a small pond, it crosses the main road via a bridge, then goes downhill to the right along it. After a few meters, the bike path separates from the main road and now leads through quiet residential areas. Here there is the option to take a detour of only about 50m to the right to visit the Gabriele Münter House. Returning from the detour or going directly continues along Mühlstraße. This meets Ramsachstraße, which is turned right onto.
Murnau – Grafenaschau Bad Kohlgrub - Bad Bayersoien
The route now leads out of Murnau to Ramsach, where a worthwhile refreshment at the inn Ähndl with an idyllic beer garden invites for a culinary break. Afterwards, the gravel path heads directly south into the popular moor area. The path is now flat, running along the stream that carries the marshy water from Staffelsee. In good weather, especially on weekends, the path can be heavily frequented by cyclists and pedestrians, so mutual consideration is required. The route winds delightfully idyllic for several kilometers through the moor area. At the junction, Grafenaschau is left on the left, and the path continues straight ahead. The path gently ascends over several kilometers, hardly noticeable due to the charming landscape of the Bad Kohlgrub Gsott wildlife reserve. At the end of this ascent, the path reaches Bad Kohlgrub. There it crosses the federal road, then immediately turns right uphill, over the railway tracks, and out of town again, across meadows and through several small hamlets, with Sprittelsberg being the last. Then it descends again into a forest, where there is a short gravel section that may require some riding skill. Then it turns left around the curve and continues for several kilometers through a deep, beautiful forest. Enjoy this path until you roll into the village of Bad Bayersoien. On the left is Soier See, which invites for a rest and perhaps a dive into the cool water. The fisher’s hut at the lake and the lake kiosk invite you to linger culinary. Then it continues into the town center of the spa town, where there are more dining options. On Dorfstraße, turn right for a few hundred meters and then left at the fountain via a bridge over the federal road.
Bad Bayersoien – Rottenbuch – Peiting - Peißenberg
After crossing the federal road, make a sharp right and leave the beautiful town, over the wide hilly meadows northwards to the Echelsbacher bridge. It is best crossed on the south side. Then keep left at the roundabout and turn into Schleifmühlenweg. Now it goes again close to nature through individual farms, the path changes again to gravel uphill and meets the road leading directly past Schwaigsee. There, the cool water invites for another short break. The path continues northwards. It crosses the main road and tackles the penultimate big ascent of the day. At the top, the path turns left. For those interested in fine cheese delicacies, turn right here and stop at the Schönegger Käsealm about 200 meters away to enjoy the breathtaking panorama. The actual path then leads with fabulous views over the land and the Ammergau and Allgäu Alps along the ridge to a right curve. Now it goes downhill and further north for about two kilometers away from stress and bustle. Then the path meets the bike path along the federal road. Turn left and follow for approximately another two kilometers until the bike path turns left away from the federal road and climbs uphill through a small wood. The last big ascent is done. At the top, it then goes almost immediately steeply downhill. At the bottom, the path continues with a tight bend to the left—so pay attention to your speed. Also, at the foot of the mountain is another gastronomy tip, Oli's Schnaidbergstube, so watch out for pedestrians crossing. Back at the federal road, follow it on the bike path to the underpass, which is passed through. Then turn right onto the street “Am Stein” towards Peiting. At the entrance to the town, the route turns right onto Schnalzstraße, which is followed. After an underpass and a few houses on the left side, the path leads now on gravel for about one kilometer in curves downhill into the forest. At the bottom, the path now follows parallel to the wild Ammer. The path is simply idyllic. Sometimes wide, sometimes narrow, always with the babbling of the river in your ears. Near Peißenberg, the path leaves the forest and leads along the forest edge back to the starting point of this beautiful route.
