Long-range variant of the legendary Dolomites round route. This leads entertainingly and breathtakingly - over a total of four passes - right through the bizarre mountain landscape of South Tyrol.

Sellaronda: This Italian people's cycling day, which will be held for the 19th time in 2025, allows cycling enthusiasts to circle the Sella Group completely free of emissions and engine noise. The extremely athletic and environmentally friendly approach via Toblach adds the final special touch to this overwhelming experience.

The magnificent cycling round leads - very attractively - over four passes around the Sella massif. The numerous climbs are - except for the final ascent to the Furkel Pass - technically quite easy and always easily rideable!

In this extremely long variant, it already starts in Toblach. After a leisurely 65KM, Brixen is reached; at 120KM you finally pass the first pass height, the Sella Pass. Subsequently, the Pordoi Pass and the Campolongo Pass are ridden until finally - after 187KM - the Furkel Pass is reached!

The original route of the Sellaronda covers 53km, with about 1650m of elevation gain.

In the somewhat more demanding "Master Blaster" around 215KM and 4150m of elevation gain are covered. For this route, hardcore and enduring gravel bikers should plan approximately 10 - 12 hours of net riding time (without breaks)!

On two days a year (June & September) the road is closed to motorized traffic; then this long route is definitely worth it...

If you seek solitude and peace, you will find none here. On the contrary, it is busy all year round! Especially on the car-free days, thousands of bike enthusiasts swarm over the mountain passes - the atmosphere is euphoric and you’re carried along by the crowd...

The cycle path from Toblach via Bruneck and Brixen to Waidbruck is certainly the most beautiful and quietest section of this adventure! The perfect conclusion of this great gravel day is ultimately the traffic-calmed ascent to the Furkel Pass plus the rewarding alternative route to Welsberg!

At the end of this long day, you get a grand cycling experience, although relentless endurance and high persistence are required here!

    Author’s recommendation

The overall >30KM long gravel sections justify the use of a gravel bike. Pure road cyclists will probably use the mostly heavily frequented main roads! A coffee break in the picturesque Klausen should be firmly planned, as well as lunch in Wolkenstein...

    Safety information

The route is basically well signposted - with the help of the enclosed GPX file, you basically cannot get lost...

17% gravel road, 46% paved and structurally separated cycle paths or side roads, 37% heavily trafficked main roads!

In summer it gets quite warm on the paved climbs due to the heat buildup...

The gradients throughout the route are really moderate and consistently pleasantly rideable! The final ascent over the Furkel Pass becomes somewhat steeper in the last third and demands the - hopefully still available - reserves of strength!

Beware of the long descents, the braking system should be in perfect working order!

    Tips and suggestions

The charming old town in Klausen invites you to a short break, a strategically very good rest stop!

Along the way, there are many inviting dining options, allowing you to plan breaks individually!
