A highlight route to another world: steep ramps wind up from Scuol to the former mining settlement of S-charl. But on gravel the incline soon becomes gentler – and the surroundings are otherworldly beautiful. Along the rough gravel bed of the meandering Clemgia, the mountain path leads almost to the highest Swiss stone pine forest in Europe, the God da Tamangur.

The starting point is the sun-drenched Scuol in the Lower Engadine (1243 m above sea level), nestled among impressive mountains. Following mountain bike route No. 1, you start with a short descent down to the Inn (1211 m above sea level). Then it goes stroke after stroke. The ascent towards the summer village of S-charl starts in the forest with some steep ramps. Here the ground is still asphalted and the altitude quickly melts away. After about 300 meters of elevation gain, you can catch your breath thanks to a short intermediate descent and briefly let your legs hang loose. Shortly afterwards, at Sasstaglia (1563 m above sea level), the forest thins out and the view opens into the valley. Deep down in the gorge on the right you see the river Clemgia, which you follow through the enormous scree gorge running along the national park boundary up to S-charl. The surface now changes from asphalt to gravel – it becomes more adventurous. The road winds tightly and curvily into the valley and nature becomes wilder and wilder. Nestled between high mountain peaks, the route rises leisurely but steadily, punctuated by short, steep ramps. At 1808 m above sea level lies the village of S-charl, one of the probably most secluded places in Switzerland, which was even inhabited all year round until 1920. Fountains with fresh spring water and restaurants invite you here at the back of the valley to linger with a magnificent panorama. The canyon-like valley is so beautiful that you can look forward to riding back on the same road. Back in Scuol, the thermal bath "Bogn Engiadina Scuol" invites you to relax. 20 mineral springs are located in the immediate vicinity of Scuol, which also supply various fountains in the village.
