    Author’s recommendation

    • The bike route to the Almtalerhaus can also be started at the train station in Grünau.
    • I did the route during the week, as it is very busy at and around the Almtalerhaus on weekends.

On farm roads and side streets, it goes from the parking lot at the ice rink in Wels along the R4 (Traun bike path) to Fluchtwang.

Turn right and continue to Fischlham-Steinerkirchen-Eberstallzell, then continue on the R11 (Almtalweg) to Grünau in Almtal.

At the Grünau train station, head towards Almsee. There is a short section of bike path, the rest is on the road, which is not heavily trafficked. Next to the road there is a rideable forest path, but it should only be used accompanied.

At the Hotel Jagersimmerl, turn left onto the street to the Almtalerhaus.

The return trip leads through Grünau in Almtal and continues on the road (no bike path) to the Forellenhof Wieselmühle, turn right just before the bridge over the Alm.

On partly narrow gravel paths and asphalt, it goes along the Alm to Scharnstein, where at Viechtwang you rejoin the R11 and then head back to Wels.
