Consorzio Alta Valle del Potenza e Scarzito
The gorge called “Lu Bottaone” falls within the Alte Valli del Potenza e Scarzito Tourist Consortium, in the territory of the Municipality of Sefro (MC). In the examined maps, there are no other toponymic and local indications. The gorge initially crosses the “Marne a Fucoidi” formation and then the underlying rocky formation of the “Maiolica”. The high fracturing of the rock masses necessarily led, during the armoring phase, to drilling holes 40 cm deep and the use of stainless steel bars 16 mm in diameter.
Brief description: it is a gorge with eight drops, all equipped and of varying heights. It starts with smaller drops of about 3/8 m, up to bigger drops of 10/15 m, with a maximum drop of 23 m (approximately 2h 30’).

Access:
The gorge is located a short distance from the Municipality of Sefro towards the hamlet of Cerreto di Sorti, in a tributary area between Monte Stinco and Colle Carbonara, and its path overlooks the Scurosa Valley. Besides the Valley, the gorge can also be accessed from Camerino and Serravalle di Chienti, passing through the Montelago plain. Recommended routes to reach the start:
1st route:
From the Valle Scurosa Refuge, reachable by car 3 km from the Municipality of Sefro, climb trail no. 214 and then, at a fork, take the right trail no. 262, marked with white/red signs, until you intersect, on the left, the deviation of the path leading to the gorge, recognizable by the typical international white/blue sign (about 1h 30’ walk);
2nd route:
After leaving a first car at the Valle Scurosa Refuge, drive a second vehicle up the paved road towards Montelago. After about 5 km, reaching the Cornuggia pass, turn right onto a dirt road closed by a liftable barrier, indicated as trail no. 201, until you reach a small structure (Rifugio M.Camorlo) where you can leave the car. Continue on foot along trail no. 262 until you identify the white/blue signs that lead to the gorge entrance (about 10’ walk).
Return:
At the exit of the gorge, follow the white/blue signs until you meet trail no. 262 again, which leads directly to the Valle Scurosa Refuge (about 20’).
