LF Routes
A particularly popular long-distance cycling route is the Zuiderzee Route. On this loop around the former Zuiderzee—now the IJsselmeer—you’ll experience the rich history of what is also known as the “Golden Circle.” The bustling activity in the various fishing villages, the peace and open spaces of the Wieden and Weerribben, the vast forests of the Veluwe, and the expansive Flevoland polder landscape.
The Zuiderzee Route consists of three National Cycling Routes: LF21 (Amsterdam–Afsluitdijk), LF22 (Afsluitdijk–Kampen), and LF23 (Kampen–Amsterdam). Along the way, follow the corresponding rectangular signs with green lettering; these are posted in both directions. The total length is about 400 kilometers. However, you can shorten the route in various ways, for example by choosing the route through the Flevopolder or by taking the ferry between Enkhuizen and Stavoren or Urk.
Current Information andRoute Changes: Before you set out on an LF route, always check to see if there are any current issues along your route that could affect your trip. There may be a temporary road detour or a ferry out of service. In any case, the LF route network has changed significantly in recent years due to the alignment of LF routes with regional cycling junction networks.
