Sporty climbs, magnificent panoramic views, and the secret capital of Rheinhessen – Alzey. An eventful day route over the most beautiful Hiwwel in Rheinhessen, pure cycling fun for “summit conquerors.” It is one of the 4 stages of the Hiwwel Route.

Wine and hills, trulli and villages await the cycling enthusiast on this sporty day route. The starting point is Wörrstadt. From there, it goes via Sulzheim to Wallertheim at the foot of the Wißberg. From there, you climb up onto the hills. Some have wonderful names like Kuhhimmel or Lacherhübel. Near Wöllstein, the route reaches the Rheinhessian Switzerland, the most forested area in the otherwise wine-growing dominated Rheinhessen. The route leads southward into romantic wine villages like Eckelsheim with its late Gothic church ruins. At Flonheim, you encounter the “trulli,” a special type of vineyard huts, and the historic town center of Flonheim invites you to take a break before heading to the next hills. When the scenic Heimersheimer hill plateau is reached, the lively wine town of Alzey is not far away.

Note: Between Stein-Bockenheim and Flonheim approx. 2 km of unpaved path.
