Cyclists setting out on the almost 110 km loop can look forward to

    • many culinary specialties
    • the special beauty of the landscape around Wasserburg, shaped by Ice Age glaciers, developed by farmers into a grassland-centered cultural landscape
    • more often than elsewhere, horses, cattle and sheep peacefully grazing on green pasture
    • stately farms decorated with love and pride
    • Mediterranean and romantic flair in the town of Wasserburg
    • stylish village and monastery churches, but also castles
    • an occasional swim in one of the numerous small lakes
    • repeated splendid views of the Alpine range
    • overall a firework of beautiful impressions.

The route is simply too nice to cycle in one day. At least two days should be allowed to enjoy all the many beautiful impressions and to make use of at least some of the many sightseeing opportunities.

    Author’s recommendation

A detour into Wasserburg's old town is worthwhile: small alleys and cafés invite you to stroll. Stops at the culinary highlights are a must.

    Safety information

    • Always check the lights, brakes, tires, and reflectors of your bike before starting!
    • Wear bright, reflective clothing in poor visibility (dusk, darkness, fog, etc.). Alternatively: vest or ankle bands with reflector strips.
    • Especially in autumn and winter, fallen leaves on the ground can hide possible unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path.
    • Attach tall bicycle flags to your children's bikes as well, so even the smallest riders are well noticed in road traffic.

    Roadbook

Route: Wasserburg am Inn – Wang – Saint Leonhard – Amerang – Höslwang – Bad Endorf – Söchtenau – Schonstett – Griesstätt – Rott am Inn – Ramerberg – Wasserburg am Inn

    • If you arrive by train, the path leads from Wasserburg station in the Reitmehring district via Gabersee and the Burgau down the Köbingerberg into the town of Wasserburg surrounded by the Inn.
    • For cyclists who do not arrive by train, the car park under the ramp is recommended.
    • In Wasserburg am Inn, also called the "Pearl on the Inn," you can experience a special Mediterranean flair:
    • You leave the town via the dreamy Wuhrbach valley and soon see the charming patrician manor Weikertsham. Don't miss the small detour to the "Beautiful View" overlooking Wasserburg in the Inn loop.
    • In Oberreit, the beautiful wildlife park is worth a visit. The path there winds gently, framed by fields and meadows.
    • A dreamy path now awaits cyclists in Kirchloibersdorf. Passing a quiet lake with views of the Kling castle hill, you visit at Surbrunn the source of the Murn, a river that, surprisingly, first flows south before joining the northward-flowing Inn.
    • In Amerang, a visit to the Farmhouse Museum with historic buildings and the Museum of German Automobile History EFA Mobile Zeiten is worthwhile. After leaving the village, you reach Amerang Castle. The famous Renaissance arcaded courtyard offers outstanding acoustics for the castle concerts. The notable castle with its interesting history is open for visits from Friday to Sunday, and for groups on other days.
    • In Höslwang, admire the baroque church, where the work of Wessobrunn artists is clearly visible. Next to the maypole hangs the flag of the largest FC Bayern fan club.
    • You then pass the bathing lake Pelhamer See, part of the famous Eggstätt-Hemhofer lake district. The following elevated stretch offers views of the Alpine chain.
    • Bad Endorf is especially known for its thermal baths. Pleasant temperatures and wellness facilities provide perfect relaxation after a long cycling day. The local farmers' theatre performs the story of a saint every early summer.
    • The path becomes somewhat more challenging at times. However, a solitary atmosphere makes up for it with the historic church standing freely in a meadow in Patersdorf. In Schwabering, the church, newly restored in late Gothic style, impresses with its blue starry ceiling.
    • After a short detour to the Stucksdorfer Moss with the dreamy Siferlinger See, the Rinssee invites you to swim shortly afterward. A special treat is the Rinser natural ice cream from the Geschwendtner family.
    • Griesstätt has particularly beautified its village center during the village renewal. We now cross the Inn and cycle along a section of the Inn cycle route heading south. A detour on the Inn cycle route west towards the north leads to the Modest Coffee Roastery, where coffee specialties can be tasted directly.
    • From afar, Rott greets from the hill. The famous baroque monastery church there has been renovated and now shines in full splendor. Franz Josef Strauß's crypt is located in the cemetery.
    • Then the path goes back down to the Inn valley. Along a loop following the Inn, we come up to Attel. The monastery church there is worth seeing.
    • Now you cycle along the Innleite and pass through the extensive grounds of the Inn-Salzach Clinic. At the top of the hill, you can either go directly to the station or turn right over the Burgau down into Wasserburg's old town.
