Author’s recommendation
After the strenuous cycling route, we can treat ourselves to a cool-off at the Riedsee in Pfohren. The gravel lake is very natural and invites swimming with very clean water. The lido is located at the "Riedsee-Camping" campsite in Pfohren.

Roadbook
The starting point of the cycling route is the village square in Pfohren. The Donaueschingen district is the first village on the young Danube.
We discover the Entenburg, the former hunting lodge of the Fürstenberg Count Wolfgang, which was also visited by Emperor Maximilian in 1507. Continuing along the young Danube on the Danube cycle path towards Neudingen. In the small Donaueschingen district is the crypt church with the princely Fürstenberg family tomb. Now we return to the Danube cycle path. At the next signpost, we turn left towards Geisingen and after the underpass, left again towards Wartenberg. We follow the bicycle signs, past a field cross, until we reach a country road. There we turn right and cycle a short stretch along the country road by the Unterhölzer forest.
Now a steep climb awaits us along the Unterhölzer forest towards Wartenberg. The woodland is private property of the princely family. They use the hunting lodge in the Unterhölzer forest as a hunting residence and retreat. The effort of the ascent is soon rewarded with a magnificent view from the memorial cross on the Wartenberg over the young Danube and the Black Forest. We visit the Wartenberg castle ruins and spot in the distance the inhabited Wartenberg castle with the castle park. Following the signs to Geisingen, we enjoy the descent and a wonderful view over orchards. Before Geisingen, we turn right again towards Pfohren and continue on a varied, natural route along the Danube back to the starting point, the village square in Pfohren.
The Danube is known as Europe’s second-longest river and flows on its journey from Donaueschingen to the Black Sea through ten European countries.
