Trudpert's dream
A gravel dream between the Belchen (1414m) and the Münstertal monastery St. Trudpert
If the missionary Trudpert had already had a gravel bike in the 7th century, the story would surely have been different. Instead of struggling through the thicket of the river meadow along the Neumagen, he would have explored the "valley of a hundred valleys" with his bike and might have simply forgotten his mission here to establish a mission site among the pagan Alemanni, amazed at the great views. Of course, the route demands - and sometimes the ups and downs are annoying. But it will be a day of deep views and soaring heights - promised... And it can make you happy to have made exactly as many altitude meters at the end as the Belchen is high.

Roadbook
From the station initially westwards downhill to reach half height at the Wildsbach in a side valley. Now it goes cheerfully out of the valleys past the cattle hut Köpfle (view!) and around the Süssenbrunnertal on a solid forest road. Then down to the Talbach to reach the junction Belchenweg via a short stretch on the L 130. From here comes a long uphill section on a well-developed forest road through the Belchen north flank up to the Krinne. Do not miss the turnoff towards Heidstein on the way. At Wiedener Eck, it goes down a steep (20%) farm road to Neuhof (caution - possible cattle crossings and fences!). After crossing the valley floor, back up towards Branden - it is the last longer ascent. At Branden, magnificent views over the valley to the Kaiserstuhl and the Vosges. Via the Bühl you reach the St. Trudpert monastery and from there at the edge of the village back to the station.
