Even without hunting, you leave everyday life behind and relax as you glide through fields and forests. Along the way, you discover mystical megalithic graves, the idyllic Bruneforth watermill, and finally the graceful castle with its unique star-shaped layout.
Although tempting: do not linger too long, because there is also plenty to see on the way back. The unique Hüven mill, for example, which can use both wind and water power. Or the royal grave of Groß Berßen, the most impressive megalithic structure on the Hümmeling megalithic grave road. The short walking route links further megalithic graves, which our ancestors built about 5,000 years ago. Shortly before Meppen, you reach the St. Vitus Church in Bokeloh, which is over 1,000 years old. A look inside the old school next door is also worthwhile: besides a historic classroom, there is a small exhibition about Otto Pankok. The artist lived and worked in Emsland for several years.
