Through the Upper Hegau No. 3

The route is marked with the red cycle signage number 3.

From Stockach train station, cycle into Bahnhofstraße, follow a yield sign to the left, then cross Meßkircher Straße. Cycle along Nellenbadstraße to the next intersection, then turn right onto Stegwiesen street. Upon reaching Oberdorfstraße, turn left until you reach the busy Tuttlinger Straße. To get to the cycle path on the left side directly behind the church, use the footpath in front of the church and keep left. Follow the cycle path along the B 14 to the entrance of Windegg. At the end of the cycle path, orient left towards Mahlspüren. At a curve before the next small settlement, turn left again, then continue straight ahead. At the next crossroads, turn right until you reach K 6177. There, turn left and reach Mahlspüren in the Hegau. At the edge of town, a cycle path leads to Raithaslach. Stay on the main road. At a fork, cycle towards Honstetten/Heudorf. Just past Raithaslach’s town exit, turn right onto an asphalted path. About 100 m past the stone cross, cycle left briefly uphill into the forest, then cycle parallel to the forest edge until you reach a cabin. In front of it, turn left onto a gravel path which leads you through another forest area. Reaching the forest edge, follow the paved road straight to Heudorf. At the first intersection in the village, turn right onto the main street and cycle uphill towards Liptingen. You reach the hilltop, cycle about 400 m further, then take the second right turn into the forest onto Tirolerweg. Follow this path, soon meeting the B 14, cross it and continue straight. At a wooden hut with a fire pit, turn right and stay on this path until you reach K 6111. Here keep right, cycle left in front of a forest section, past the buildings of an old gravel plant. You meet another district road, first turn right, then immediately left. Shortly after, you reach (Inner) Hecheln.

Here you can switch over to route 2 via the connecting stretch to Mühlingen.

In town, cycle past the chapel and at the fork turn right to (Outer) Hecheln. After the town exit sign, take the next right again. Just past the telegraph hut, turn left towards Bushof. In Bushof, turn right, shortly after pass Stengelehof and continue straight ahead. Behind the pond, turn left onto a narrow paved road closed to motor traffic. Pass another settlement (Schorenöschleweg) and cycle straight into a forest area. The path winds downhill and after a sharp right bend reaches the first houses of Schmelze. At the yield sign, turn right onto the parallel street to B 313. At the end of Schmelzestraße keep straight; pass on the right the sports grounds into Windegger Straße. Shortly before Tuttlinger Straße, turn left onto the cycle path that leads you through Windegg to Hindelwangen up to the church. There cross the federal road and enter the opposite Oberdorfstraße. Now follow the same way back to the station or parking lot that you cycled on the outward journey.
